Social Media in India

Commentary of social media in India. Suggested that twitter growth is going to explode driven by twitter-telco tie-ups. Ashish Sinha suggests that this will blow away Orkut, and Facebook. He also suggests that India missed the blogging wave. I disagree. The key point missed here is to identify the key driver for media adoption. Why didn’t indians blog? Maybe certain segments in India did blog. Why would Indians tweet?

I have seen plenty of indians blogging fervently, driven by google ad dollars, or personal branding, or creative release. The issue with tweeting is that its going to cost $$$. Maybe telco tieups will reduce that cost to zero, but who is going to pay for it eventually? and will it be sustainable?
