Terence spoke on New New Media at the Civil Service College recently. The topic of focus was “ROI” in New Media. Now for most
Web 2.0 groupies, we would be wondering why there would be a “Return on Investment” in New Media?
Every project usually has a return. That is a hard fact of Singapore. The other hard fact is that we cannot ignore New Media. Participation is important. The issue is to determine the appropriate levels of engagement that a government should adopt and the cost/benefits associated with it.
More importantly, a benefit of New New Media is the wealth of feedback that is now available. Every organisation should leverage this.
This is a short but great way to put it as a single viewpoint. A lot of these developers are senselessly coming up with new applications for the New Media or Social Media, but yet they fatally left out how exactly it brings values to warrant the adoption of Web 2.0 in any business or organization.
The discussion and indepth studies on ROI in Web 2.0 should be done more extensively prior to the aggressive pitchings we are facing now.
